President’s Message

September

Dear Sisters,
I guess we really deserve a BIG pat on the back. In one month and a half we helped put on
the Convention, have a wonderful Grand President's Official Visit and a great reception for June.
Boy, what a group!! Now we can rest our brains for a few weeks before we get ready for the
Christmas Basket Raffle and the Christmas Boutique. I want to thank all the committees and their
chairman for all the work they did to put all of this on. I think Sisterly Love and Protection, Faith,
Hope and Charity, which are all our Christian virtues, were all displayed during this time.

Again, thank you all!

Patti

PORTUGUESE RICE PUDDING

6 cups milk
3 eggs
1 cup rice
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
1 cube of butter
cinnamon
In a large pan over low heat, cook milk, rice and salt until rice is tender,
stirring occasionally. In the meantime, beat eggs, sugar and vanilla in a large
bowl of mixer until thick and creamy. When rice is tender, add butter and
egg mixture. Continue cooking, stirring constantly, until full boil. Cook for 2
minutes at full boil. Pour into 13X9 Pyrex dish or platter.
Cool. Sprinkle with cinnamon.

~ ~ ~ ~
I often use 1 can of skim can milk and water to equal 6 cups,
1 cube of margarine instead of butter and 1 cup of Splenda or 1/2 of Splenda and 1/2 sugar.

Pat Carvo made this for the
Grand President’s Official Visit

Notice to Crafters
The Christmas Boutique is just around the corner.
Any crafter's needing an advance for supplies
please sign up at the next meeting by the sign up sheets.
Thank you!

Grand 1st Vice President's Reception
August 15, 2010

Grand 1st Vice President, June McJunkin's
Reception was hosted by her sisters of St.
Isidore #235 in Yuba City, California. They
decided to incorporate a garden theme to tie in
with the speech June gave at the Grand Breakfast.
Centerpieces of fresh flowers in various
watering cans, vases, and some lovely hand
painted pots decorated the tables. The
centerpieces were displayed on tables
decorated with white tablecloths, a green felt
circle displaying the centerpiece surrounded
by gardening tools, hats and gloves.
At each place was a seed packet keepsake enclosed
in a garden scene pocket with the following words:

YLI Seeds For A Successful Garden
“Responsibility, Commitment, Faith”
“When new fruit arrives maintain a
strong root system and
cultivate and protect
sisterly love
and Unity.”

June McJunkin

Guests enjoyed punch, a variety of finger foods
as well as a variety of fruits and cake pieces to
dip in the chocolate fountain.

~~~
Thank you to my committee Jan Casey, Sheryl Dirks, Pat
Giertych, Mary Gunderson, Carol Horning, Patti Reardon ,
Emmy Yandall and everyone who contributed food, flowers,
good ideas, and simply saw a need and stepped in.
Barbara Smith, Chairperson
God Sometimes said “No
by Claudia Minden Welsz
I asked God to take away my pride,
and God said, “No.”
He said it was not for Him to take away,
but for me to give up.
I asked God to make my handicapped child whole,
and God said. “No.”
He said her spirit is,
while her body is temporary.
I asked God to grant me patience,
and God said, “No.”
He said patience is a by-product of tribulation.
It isn't granted, it is earned.
I asked God to give me happiness,
and God said , “No.”
He said He gives blessings,
happiness is up to me.
I asked God to spare me pain,
and God said, “No.”
He said , “Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares
and brings you closer to Me."
I asked God to make my spirit grow,
and God sid, “No.”
He said I must grow on my own,
but He will prune me and make it fruitful.
I asked God if He loved me,
and God said, “Yes.”
He gave me His only Son, who died for me.
And I will be in Heaven someday, because I believe.
I asked God to help me Love others as much as
He Loves me, and God said,
“Ah, finally, you have the idea.”
Prayer Pals
We have started a new Spiritual Project in the
Institute, called Prayer Pals. Three names are
drawn each month and the members pray for
them. The names drawn go back into the
Prayer Box and can be drawn again.
Names for August are: Patricia Everett, Emmy
Yandall and Nancy Summy.
We are using the Pilot Procedure at our meetings.
New this year - Officers are to sign in
when they come to the meeting. Any guests will sign in on the Guest list. If you want to put someone on the sick list there will be a sign up list at the sign in table. The Sentinel oversees this process. If you need to add or delete a person, you may call June McJunkin (Recording Secretary) to update the list. Names stay on the list for three months. A call to June (673-3859) will ensure continued listing for those needing our prayers.
Grand President’s Official Visit
Many thanks to our members for attending
Grand President's Lana's reception and making this event
successful. We also thank our committee for a job well done.
God Bless!
