News from our President

Dear Sisters,

About 12 years ago, when my family was living at Ft. Hood, Texas, a Lutheran friend of mine said, "What is it with you Catholics? Why do you always have Jesus' dead body hanging on a cross? You can't miss it when you walk into your churches. It's so gross and disgusting." Like my friend, I too see a tortured body that at times grieves me to look upon. And yet, with the eyes of faith, focused by a Catholic upbringing, I also see a compassionate God telling me how important I am to him. Jesus said, "There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for a friend." In the garden of Gethsemane, when Jesus fell prostrate in prayer with sweat drops of blood, and felt disheartened when he found his disciples sleeping, I believe he looked across the expanse of time and saw my life and yours. He could clearly see our lives unfold as children and adults. He knew we would join together as YLI institute and united by the Holy Spirit, earnestly struggle to build up the Father's kingdom on this earth. Jesus lovingly suffered through his passion and crucifixion for you and me. The crucifix serves as a visible reminder of how precious we are in his sight.

When you look at a crucifix, what do you see? I hope you see love! If you do not, beseech God to send out his Holy Spirit to increase your faith so that you may truly believe you are his beloved daughter. Ask our Heavenly Father to also strengthen your desire and ability to "take up your own cross and follow Jesus' example." God's grace is abundant and sufficient. All we have to do is ask for it.

Love and friendship,

Jennifer

YLI BITS and PIECES

Confessions for Shut-ins

An upcoming spiritual activity will be escorting our elderly and shut-in YLI sisters to confession. On November 22 beginning at 2 p.m., Father Soria will be hearing confessions for approximately 2 hours. If you would like to help with this ministry, please call Catherine Haynes.

Please pray for the souls of the faithful departed of our parish and for our deceased members, family, and friends. Please continue to pray for our American troops and for world peace.

*Happy Birthday to our October Sisters*

MARK YOUR CALENDAR!

Prepare your crafts and goodies for the Christmas Boutique on November 20th & 21st!

Thank You Ladies!

Because of your generosity, we have donated 123 baby items plus 16 dozen diapers to A Woman's Friend in Marysville. You brought receiving blankets, quilts, clothing, bathing items and so much more. A Woman's Friend is very appreciative and will give all of those things to young mothers in need. Fourteen of you joined me at the baby shower to play silly games, eat fattening desserts and share child-raising suggestions. Thank you for your participation and thanks to those who sent gifts but were unable to attend. I'm still collecting tips for new moms for a booklet, so if you would like to be "publisher", please send them to me. Kathy Anderson
