Our President's Message

Dear Sisters,

If you were on trial for being a Catholic, would there be enough evidence to convict you?  I often ponder this question throughout the Lenten Season.  After all, Jesus was on trial for being the Son of God.  His birth, life, and death spoke eloquently of the Father’s love for all his children.  His message terrified some people and comforted others.  Jesus openly challenges us:  “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross and follow me.”  MK 8:34

Your membership in YLI would be evidence that could be used against you.  Any jobs that you volunteer for – fundraisers, spiritual activities and socials – would be used against you.  Your private prayer life might be hard to prove, but any public praying you do – at Mass or our business meetings  - would be incriminating.  Your random acts of kindness and genuine concern for others would definitely be used against you as well.  My hope is that I would be convicted, but I wouldn’t want to be tortured as our Lord was.  I’m weak and have a low threshold for pain.  I’d have some consolation if I went to jail; a lot of you would be doing jail-time with me.  May the Holy spirit strengthen your identity as a Catholic and edify your desire to take up your cross and follow Christ.

Love and friendship,
Jennifer
