President’s Messages

June-July

Dear Sisters,

It seems like yesterday that I stood before you and was installed as president. Now installation is right around the corner. I am pleased, yet humbled, that you have put your faith in me again to serve as president for the coming year. Many thanks to the nominating committee for putting together a wonderful slate of officers for next year. For those of you who have served the institute diligently this year, I want to thank you from the entirety of my being. A successful president relies on so many people to bring everything together and be a part of an institute that truly shines, and shine we did. From attending official visits, board meetings, convention meeting, or selling something, we did it well and had fun doing it. This is exactly why I joined YLI and will always cherish my many sisters. Keep the faith, remember to pray your rosary, and always think of YLI when you're talking to a Catholic woman who may not know who or what YLI is. You may get a new member, a new friend,or both.

August

Dear Sisters,

Summer is here, and so are the heat and convention. Good times are ahead, I just know it, because you are all such a great group of ladies. Speaking of great ladies, some long overdue thanks are in order. First, to Marolyn O'Neill, Tina Moscuzza, Mary Smith, and JoAnn Garcia who worked to make the First Communion reception that YLI hosted a refreshing and fun experience for all who attended. Second, to Jennifer Martinez, who at the last minute, answered my call when asked to donate milk for the feast of Saint Isidore. It was a huge success and everyone who attended ate and drank. We were still able to donate the leftovers to the food locker. At the installation social there were tons of food and fun. Fr. Francisco was installed as our Chaplain. Also installed were the new officers for the 2008-2009 year. Thanks to Luci Fisher and her committee for a job well done. I will treasure the Y.L.I. Pen and engraved case that I received as my gift from the institute. If I haven't said it enough, thank you to all the ladies who served as officers last year. Carlie Foote, Institute Deputy and her installing team were top notch. Last by certainly not least, my most heart felt thanks to Sandee Paez for the beautiful scrapbook, chronicling my term as president. I look forward to the coming year with enthusiasm and a desire to see our institute grow spiritually, socially, and increase in membership. If we all work together, our goals will be achieved, fun will be had, and we will be one year closer to convention 2010 - in Sacramento - YEAH!
P.S. Remember committee lists and socials will be coming around at the next few meetings. I will need committee chairpersons and committee members.

In Sisterly Love,

Nita

...Golden Jubilee Burse Mass...

Our Lady of Grace #206 hosted the Golden Jubilee Burse Mass and Luncheon. Bishop Weigand and the Pastor of St. Patrick's Church in Grass Valley concelebrated the Mass. Their talks were very uplifting and inspirational. Our sisters of Our Lady of Grace outdid themselves with a delicious croissant lunch and strawberry shortcake. Our Grand President DeMova Barrett presented a check for $16,124.00 from the three YLI Districts in the Sacramento Diocese. Since the Golden Jubilee Burse started 50 years ago, $292,761.21 was donated to the Sacramento Diocese. Over all YLI has donated $2,736,033.71 for Seminarian Education. Our institute had 9 members present and donated $1500.00 for Seminarian Aid.

Penny Penance

This year our Penny Penance calendar raised $256.00 for the Grand President's Program. Catholic Charities. We decided to request that it be used for the "Get on the Bus Program" which provides transportation for children to visit their imprisoned mothers. Additionally, we decided to donate $250 to our own food locker in the Grand President's name.

Thank you!

Barbara Smith, Chair

Baby Shower
for
A Woman's Friend
The baby shower was a great success. The ladies attending saw a wide range of beautiful outfits for the newborns. There outfits galore, from tiny patriotic tees to larger two piece outfits. There were rattles, diapers, homemade-baby blankets, burp pads, booties and caps-and so mandy other wonderful things. There were several monetary donations, also. We had a wonderful speaker from A Woman's Friend and several guest from our parish. Our speaker brought models of fetus's to show the size and weight at different stages of development. She also spoke on some of the services they provide such as: pregnancy testing, clothes room (providing maternity clothing and baby clothes), and furniture as it becomes available. Post-abortion counseling is provided for men and women who are coming to terms with a past abortion decision. The center has a California State medical license, and they offer limited medical care to clients. They have five volunteer physicians and ten nurses supporting clients. They serve over 1800 clients a year.

Thank you to my committee: Kathy Palacios, Grace DeLise, Roberta Lomeli, Pat Carvo and Sandy Duncan. We had lots of fun playing "Identify the Baby Picture" and making words from " A Woman's Friend Baby Shower". Cookies, mini muffins, ice tea and soda were served. Everyone had a great time.

THANK YOU!

Dear YLI Sisters,

I sincerely appreciate all of you thoughts, cards, and prayers sent in memory of my son Michael. It has been a very sad, stressful, and difficult time for our family. Your caring and trust in God's Will has made each day easier. Thank you for the Mass offered in his memory. Thank you and may God bless all of you.

Your YLI Sister,

Pat Giertych

Nita's Note
This is the time of the year that planning committees and events for the 2008-2009 year begin. There are many ways your talents
can support and benefit our YLI. Members are needed for the visiting committee, social events, ways and means committee and spiritual committee.
If you would like to help, please let me know how YOU want to help.

Community Outreach

YLI has been very supportive in donating items to the Fountains for "Bingo" prizes. Items are needed for all occasion. Ladies, please continue to donate toiletry items for Casa De Esperanza. You may bring items to the meeting or call Sue West.

THANK YOU to all the members who attended the DISTRICT SPRING CONFERENCE at the end of May.
We had very good representation and won the $15 attendance prize. Past Grand President Marilynn Walter
introduced us to the Optional Installation Procedure (shortened version), which we practiced and some
institutes used it for their installation in June. A delicious lunch was served by St. Francis #48.
