President’s Message |
|
Dear Sisters, My year as your president is drawing quickly to an end. My how time flies when you’re working and playing in company of your friends! I started my year devoting my efforts to the Holy Spirit and I want to end with some thoughts on the Holy Spirit’s Bride – the Virgin Mary. In a beautiful book titled, The Reed of God, Caryll Houselander ponders the meaning of the fiat of a peasant girl in Nazareth whom the whole world calls Our Lady. She boldly states that it is in Our Lady that God fell in love with Humanity; culminating in the conception of Christ in the human race. Houselander goes on to say, “When she surrendered herself to God, there was indeed a miraculous New Heaven and New Earth. The Spirit entered the world – light, wisdom, love, patience, fortitude, and joy entered the human heart and mind, and in the sight of God a spring time of loveliness woke in the world.” (Pg. 15) By her example, Our Blessed Mother has revealed a timeless truth about God, that is, when we willingly surrender to the Holy Spirit’s influence in our lives, Jesus’ presence is made manifest in the world. Like Our Blessed Mother, we too, are called to be Christ-bearers in the world. To use our ordinary lives, hand and feet, heart, waking, sleeping and eating in the service of Christ. Nothing extraordinary, just a plain, simple yes that resounded from Our Lady’s lips and must be echoed in our lives today. Houselander believes that to surrender all that we are, as we are, to the Spirit of Love is necessary so that our lives may bear Christ into the world – that is what God is asking us to do. The work, prayer, laughter and love we have shared this past year leads me to believe we are touched by the Spirit. Our Blessed Mother has watched over us and I think she is pleased with our efforts to “bear Christ in the world”. Thank you for the honor or being president of our institute. “May the Lord send out his Spirit and renew the face of the earth and enkindle in my heart and yours, the fire of his love.” Love and friendship, Jennifer |
