News from our President

Dear Sisters,

Throughout the gospels, Our Lord's example and request is simple—pray unceasingly. Why? If God doesn't need our prayers and adoration, why should we be constantly engaged in an activity that does nothing for Him? Because our efforts and sincerity of heart will draw us into the intimacy of God's house.

Henry Nouwen, in his book Intimacy, Fecundity, and Ecstasy in Christian Perspective, puts it this way. "In our competitive world we are so used to thinking in terms of 'more' and 'less' that we cannot easily see how God can love all human beings with the same unlimited love while at the same time loving each one of them in a totally unique way. Somehow we feel our election involves another's rejection, that our uniqueness involves another's commonness. The deeper our prayer life becomes the closer we come to this mystery of God's love. And the closer we are to this mystery the better we can live it out in our daily lives." As God's chosen people, our YLI institute is a perfect example of how we belong together in the embrace of God's perfect love.

Our prayer, both collective and individual, leads us into the house of God where we can be united to him and each other. Likewise our actions lead us back into the world were we work for reconciliation, fecundity and peace. May God bless you with the gifts of the Holy Spirit so that you may live a fruitful life, grounded in daily prayer and thanksgiving.

Love and friendship,

Jennifer

Confessions for Shut-ins: There is still a need for ladies to escort our elderly and shut-in YLI sisters to confession on November 22 starting at 2 p.m. Father Soria will be hearing confessions for approximately two hours. If you can help with this ministry, please call Catherine Haynes.

Financial Support for a Seminarian: We will once again be financially supporting a seminarian student with a $30 check per month until his ordination. His name is Joseph Rodriguez. He is presently serving his pastoral year as a Deacon at St. Anthony's Parish in Winters. Please keep him in your prayers.

Please pray for the souls of the faithful departed of our parish and for our deceased members, family, and friends. Please continue to pray for our elderly, lonely, and infirm sisters, our American troops, and for world peace.

Prayer for the Closing of the
Women's Health Specialists Abortion Mill

Father, all life is in Your care. You have entrusted us to one another, that we may show our brothers and sisters the same love You have for us. We pray, then, for the least among us, the children in the womb. Protect them from the violence of abortion. We pray for those that are scheduled to die at Women's Health Specialists in Chico. Save them from death. Give new hope to their parents, that they may turn away from the desperate act of abortion. Grant conversion to the abortionist and to the staff. Show us how we are to respond to the bloodshed in our midst, and lead us to the day when this place of death will be transformed into a haven of life. Guard us with your joy and your peace, for in You, life is victorious. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE

Are you putting the final touch to your Christmas crafts and looking for your favorite recipe for the bake sale? You can bring your crafts to the Nov. 11th meeting. We will set up in the Parish Hall on Saturday Nov. 20. You can bring things from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. You can also take things to Jerry Himenes' home. Please label nuts/no nuts, and put cookies and cupcakes in packages of six. Committee: Jerry Himenes, Cille Ibbotson, Leona Field, Dolores Latawski and Sandee Paez.

The Bylaws Committee (Carol Horning, Chair; Les Collier, Catherine Haynes, June McJunkin and Mary Perry) is proposing the following amendments to the Institute Bylaws:

ARTICLE V OFFICERS AND DUTIES OF OFFICERS Section 4 Salaries for desk officers shall be paid quarterly (April, July, October, and January) as follows:

Recording Secretary - $40.00

Financial Secretary - $25.00

Treasurer - $25.00

ARTICLE XI MISCELLANEOUS Section 5 Using Golden Jubilee Burse cards when remembering our shut-in sisters (elderly, sick and infirmed) for any/all occasions - i.e. Christmas and Easter. The transfer of $5.00 for each remembrance will be made to the Golden Jubilee Burse in their name. Voting at the Nov. 11th meeting.

ATTENTION PLEASE: When one of your sisters calls you with a message from the telephone committee, please be respectful and listen to the information she has to give you. If she asks you to call her back, please be courteous and call her back as soon as you can. The ladies who are serving on the telephone committee are helping me, the President, stay in touch with all the members. Our by-laws require me to notify all the members of our institute when a YLI sister has died. All the other calls you might receive will be made to keep you informed of pertinent dates and information. If you ONLY want to be called for the required death notification, please call Leona Field, telephone committee chair. Thank you for your cooperation.

Letter from Adeline Volker's Family

YLI,

What an awesome organization of beautiful, caring women. You have no idea what all of you have meant to our family at such a sad, stressful, and trying time in coping with our precious Mother's illness and then her death. We will miss her terribly as we know you will by your outpouring of love, friendship, and always being there when she needed you.

Thank you for the lovely reception. You are one classy group of ladies. May God continue to guide you in your work and may your new guardian angel, Adeline, be with you always.

Much love,

Adeline's Kids

Special Committee Formed

Adeline Volker's family members were awestruck by the outpouring of love and support we gave to our YLI sister and to them during her hospice care. A $1,000 check was included in a letter from Adeline's family. As President, I appointed a special committee to research the feasibility of initiating, implementing and sustaining a scholarship fund that would be started with $935 of Adeline's family donation ($65 was used for funeral reception expenses). The committee members are as follows: Delores Latawski, Chair; Carol Barca, Jan Casey, Les Collier, Colleen Glenn, and Nita Singh-Dhalliwal. If you have any ideas you would like the committee to consider, please call Delores. The committee will report on their recommendations at our January business meeting. We will vote on their proposal at that time.

Jennifer

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!
