The Role of Scripture & Liturgy in Catholic Faith Formation—EDU 606
Instructor: Fr. Edward Pepka, Ph.D.
Course Dates: January 20−April 28
Considers Scripture as the heart and soul of passing on the faith with an emphasis on Christ as gift of the Father. The essential role of liturgy as the source and summit of the Catholic faith and life will also be considered. Repentance, conversion and the life of grace will be examined as seeds for the New Evangelization.

Philosophy of the Human Person—EDU 605
Instructor: Michael Torre, Ph.D.
Course Dates: January 22–April 30
Examines the philosophical development of the nature, role, and dignity of the human person within the history of Western civilization. Specific attention will be given to the thought of Aristotle and Thomas Aquinas. The course will focus on significant issues in relation to the human person in the context of the challenges of our modern culture.

Foundations in Catechetics—CCP 211
Instructor: Sr. Elizabeth Ann O’Reilly, OP, MA
Course Dates: January 20–April 28
Examines the theological/historical foundations of passing on the faith in the life of the Church. Focuses on the mystery of Christ and the mission of the Church as the basis for catechetical principles and ministry. Looks at the early Church Fathers and major 20th Century Church documents regarding catechetics and evangelization.

Passing on the Faith in the Modern Age—CCP 217
Instructor: Mary Herboth, MA
Course Dates: January 22–April 30
Examines the methods, principles, skills and tools necessary to pass on the faith in today’s modern culture with confidence and vigor. Topics: evangelization and conversion, faith and moral development, learning styles and age-appropriate lesson planning. Looks at modern technology and resource options for catechetical ministry.

Certificate Program in Marriage & Family, Part I—CFF 206 (2 units)

Course Dates: January 19–April 27
Explores marriage and family in light of the philosophy and theology engendered by Vatican II.
We’ll study and discuss the Theology of the Body, Humanae Vitae, works by Edith Stein, Dietrich von Hildebrand, Janet Smith and others.

Introduction to the Catechism of the Catholic Church—CCP 201 (Sacramento)

Introduces students to the origin and history of catechesis as found in Scripture and the Church Fathers. Focuses on the four pillars of the Catechism: Creed, Liturgy, Moral Life and Prayer. Emphasizes the teaching and passing on of the faith to others.
