“Welcome!” “So glad you are here!”

These words greeted me numerous times as I started the New Year in my new role as principal of St. Isidore Catholic School. A wonderful welcoming group of students, faculty and parents have filled each day since January with the excitement and promise of great learning experiences happening on our campus.

There are many things that we can be proud of at St. Isidore School. With a strong educational program combining both religion and academics, students are developing into young people who care for one another and offer help to their peers and the community whenever needed. They are not afraid to take on new challenges such as the Diocesan Academic Decathlon and Speech Contest. Younger students have lead me through the projects they are doing in class, telling me how they are to do their work and why it is important to them.

Our students show hope and passion for the world around them. For example, the students, with their teachers as mentors, have reduced the amount of trash the school generates by recycling paper used in the classroom. Our preschool has turned plastic bottles and soda cans into money for the purchase of a much needed shed to store outside toys. Students take the time to clean up the grounds and keep their classroom neat and organized.

Our students are also developing a strong sense of pride in their school and in their relationships with others by learning about how inter-personal communication works and how words need to be used carefully so that we don’t hurt one another. They are learning how to use prayer to communicate with God, spending quiet reflective time to hear His answer. Students are learning to act safely in relationships with the community as they use the lessons from Virtues training.

We are proud that St. Isidore Catholic School has a full curriculum for all grade levels which includes the core classes of Religion, Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies plus Physical Education, Art, Library, Spanish for grades Kindergarten through third, a Student Leadership Program and an after school competitive sports program.

It is true that it takes a community to raise a child. Our parish and school community of staff and families take pride in the achievements of our students, supporting them in times of both joy and trouble, watching them grow from little ones in the preschool through their successful promotion into high school. We, the family of St. Isidore Catholic School, thank you for your part in supporting our community. Many of you have sponsored a child with tuition, added us to your donation list and remember us in your daily prayers. We thank you!

Please know that the faculty remembers you each morning as we gather for prayer. Your continued prayers and donations are welcome and needed as we go through this tough economic year. Please remember St. Isidore Catholic School in your prayers.
