Padre Paco is a traveling bear. He will be passed from church to church through the people that attend the various churches in our community. In his backpack he carries an instant camera to take 1 or 2 pictures of each place he visits and a journal. The people that meet Padre Paco in the various churches are asked to write all the things that he has seen and learned about their church in his journal.
We at St. Isidore's hope that he will be welcome at your church!
When he returns to St. Isidore's in April, he will have many adventures to share with us from his journal! Through his stories and pictures the students will have the opportunity to learn a little something about the various churches that their friends from school might attend. They will learn that there are many different people in our church communities that are our friends and neighbors!

Padre Paco's Family readies him in Yuba City for his journey!
We have approximately 70 Third Grade students that are eagerly awaiting news of Padre Paco's travels!

The Story of Padre Paco
La Historia del Padre Paco
Once upon a time there was a very, very, nice man named Francisco. He was born in a small town in Jalisco, Mexico (It sounds like haleesko). When Francisco was very small, he decided that he wanted to become a Priest when he grew up. As he prepared for that special day, he studied very hard and traveled very far away from his home. One summer, Francisco was asked if he would like to visit a town called Yuba City in California! He was very excited about this and also a little sad to be far away from his family. (By the way, Francisco has a very, very, very large family!)

Anyway, back to the story ~ lo and behold guess where Francisco found himself??? Right here at St. Isidore Church in Yuba City! It was a new place with lots of new people to meet… but uh oh, Francisco didn't know how to speak English! WOW! How would the church community get to know him if he couldn't speak to half of them? Well, he did manage to get to know many of the parishioners even though he spoke a different language, because of his cheerful personality and great smile! And, everyone was able to see what a friendly, humble person Francisco truly was! He truly loved to serve God's church! Well, after a few months here he went to the Seminary in Oregon where he studied even more! He learned lots of English too! Then, presto! He was ready to return to St. Isidore's for several months where everyone was able to renew their friendship with him… only this time he returned as a Transitional Deacon! (That means in a very short time, he was about to be ordained by the Bishop of Sacramento as a full-fledged Priest!) Wow! It takes quite a while to become a Priest and they don't take just anybody! Once Francisco returned to St. Isidore as a Deacon, many people were able to share stories with him. We saw pictures of his family, learned about his life and found out one important thing… his nickname! What do you think it is?? Why, it's Paco of course!

So, when we at St. Isidore's decided that we wanted to have someone "beary" special, "beary" friendly, "beary" humble, someone that loves God and people a great deal, go out to meet people from other churches and be a representative for St. Isidore's, we knew exactly what to call him! So, we set out on an adventure to look for just the right person to do the job. Once we laid our eyes on this little brown, furry, chubby, huggable, loveable, stuffed bear with big friendly brown eyes we knew he would be perfect for the job!

So, just like the real life Padre Paco, our very own Padre Paco travels a lot to serve God's church, loves to take pictures everywhere he goes, he loves to meet people, speaks a different language, is very friendly and has a true heart for God and His people! In fact, when he was all sewn together, he was given a "beary" special heart of friendship. Now, he will bring stories back in his journal, to our 3rd grade Catechism class and all the parishioners at St. Isidore's of all the churches he's visited and people he's met. It's a "beary" exciting time for us here at St. Isidore's and we hope that everyone will enjoy our little visitor to your church.

St. Isidore Parish

Padre Paco returned from his travels last year with many adventures to tell about. He made so many new friends in his travels –visiting churches, pre-schools and Sunday schools. He took the greeting of love and community and presence to the places that he visited. He was a true disciple of St Isidore Parish! Friendly, loving, warm and helpful. He returned with gifts of pictures, journal pages and souveniers.

Over the summer he met Father Polycarp Ndugbu from Africa! He also helped Deacon Eldon and Jim paint the new Faith Formation office at St. Isidore’s and he also helped Jose-Luis, “Master Craftsman”, build new shelves for our awesome new office! (Actually, he, uh, well, “supervised”! - Did you know how sticky varnish can be??? - Almost as much fun as honey!)

This month he will visit the 4th grade (3rd graders from last year) and the current 3rd grade CCD clases then he’ll be off to Texas A&M University to visit his cousin “Craig.” Then after that to the University of Dallas, to visit his cousin “Kelly, then on to ROME! He and Kelly will spend many days studying “art” in Rome! Maybe even meet up with Father Bong and Father Bernard! YAHOO! (Wish I could fit into his backpack for that one!) Maybe even get to see Pope J.P.! Oh, I’m sooo jealous!
