On Friday, September 14 our Parish Community
joined our President and our Nation for the National Day of Prayer and
Remembrance. This was also an especially significant day for our Catholic
communities around the world since throughout the world, this day was
also dedicated to the Veneration of the Cross. Immediately following the 8:30 a.m. Mass and throughout the day our parish community was able to participate in the Veneration of the Cross and to pray for our nation and those who have suffered. An additional prayer service was also held at noon. Our Parish Community joins with our brothers and sisters throughout the United States and the world in prayerful remembrance of those who have suffered, are suffering and will suffer. Please remember and pray for our brothers and sisters who have died and been injured by the tragic events of September 11, 2001. May God Bless America. |
In Jerusalem, in the 5th century, on the day after the feast of the dedication of the basilica of the Resurrection (Sept. 13, 335) the wood of the Holy Cross was shown to the people. This rite gave rise to today's feast, celebrated with the great solemnity in all the Eastern Rites and accepted at Rome in the 7th century.

Be Not Afraid You shall cross the barren desert, but
you shall not die of thirst. If you pass through raging waters in
the sea, you shall not drown. Blessed are your poor, for the kingdom
shall be theirs. Be not afraid. I go before you always. Come follow me, and I will give you rest.
