Lazarus Ministry

The Lazarus Ministry is the St. Isidore Parish's organized response to the needs of people grieving the death of a loved one. The goal of this ministry is to ensure that no member of our parish community will grieve alone. Services to our parish community have been defined as:
- Providing support for the family and individual as death approaches
- Participating in the vigil service at the funeral home or in church
- Aiding in the planning of the liturgy for a Christian Funeral
- Attending and providing support at the liturgical funeral celebration
- Helping prepare a meal for after the funeral celebration
- Providing home visitations to the family after the death of their loved one
- Providing telephone contact and support to the family
- Developing a support group for the parish
- Establishing Days of Remembrance for the parish
- Providing significant liturgical preparation for and during the All Souls Day Celebration
Volunteers in the Ministry of Consolation include:A"focus group", a core of 10 to 16 members in addition to our clergy. This group identifies the needs of the parish community and assesses parish resources.
Desirable Attributes for Volunteers in the Ministry include
- Have recovered from their own grief
- Good listening skills
- Nonjudgmental
- Can be compassionate and patient
- Able to keep confidences
- Recognizes that our parishioners are people
- Are faith-filled and faithful
- Able to skillfully and appropriately use humor
- Able to work with other team members in scheduling available time to help families in crisis
Members of the parish community should console the mourners with words of faith and support and with acts of kindness One of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit is to give counsel. To do so aids the faithful in the acceptance of divine inspirations.
