Confirmation

What is the Sacrament of Confirmation?

Confirmation is a sacrament, in which, through the prayer and the anointing of the forehead with chrism by the minister, the Holy Spirit is communicated to a baptized person, to make him/her a strong and perfect Christian and a soldier of Jesus Christ. The ordinary minister of this sacrament is a Bishop, but at the Easter Vigil Mass, Catechumens and Candidates, who have completed the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA), are Confirmed by the presiding Priest. The Sacrament of Confirmation imprints a character on the soul and it cannot be repeated. On the part of the recipient, there is required a state of grace, and a ready knowledge of our Christian faith and doctrine.
