Last year many parishioners requested an opportunity to learn more about our Catholic Music and its reverential application within the Mass. This same parishioner recommendation was reiterated in the recently held Synod Speak Up sessions (April 18, 19, & 20). As one of the goals of our parish’s Pastoral Plan to provide opportunities to learn more about our faith and the sacramentals, which includes Catholic Music, the “Celebrating the Eucharist” Catholic music concert was held last Friday May 7 and a liturgical music workshop followed the next day, Saturday May 8. Led by professional Catholic liturgical composers Bob Hurd and Jaime Cortez (they are well versed and often credited in music journals, hymnals and recordings) we revisited the reverential, sacredness and diverse nature of our Catholic music as congregations throughout the nation celebrate the Eucharist within the Mass. Unfortunately many within our parish missed out on this opportunity. Maybe we can offer this again next year, but we need to hear from you. The Eucharist and the Ministry of Music

The celebration of the Eucharist is central to our identity as followers of Jesus. Here we encounter the paschal mystery of Christ, which is also our mystery since we have "put on Christ" in baptism. How does music help us to enter into this mystery? How does it help us come together as one people--the church? How does it help us to proclaim and hear the Word, and know the Risen Lord again in the breaking of the bread? How does it prepare us to go forth in service?

La celebración de la Eucaristía es el centro de nuestra identificación como seguidores de Jesus. Allí es donde encontramos el misterio pascual de Cristo, que también es un misterio nuestro ya que "Cristo esta en nosotros" por medio del bautismo. Como es que la música nos ayuda a entrar en ese misterio? Como es que nos ayuda a mantenernos como una sola persona-la iglesia? Como es que nos ayuda a proclamar y a escuchar la Palabra del Señor, y a reconocer la Resurrección de Cristo al partir la ostia? Como es que nos prepara para seguir siendo servidores?
