(Excerpt) The first Catholic Church in Sutter and Yuba Counties was begun by Father Peter Magonotta member of the Passionist Fathers on
March 20, 1853.
Later, there was a need for a Catholic Church in Yuba City. There were no services offered here, so they have to attend Masses at Marysville and settled around Hub City so their children could attend classes in their parochial school. In 1853, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, founded an elementary and a high school for girls in Marysville. It was only about 1940, when St. Joseph Church offered two Sunday Masses with a Sunday school for children between services.
On November 15, 1952, St. Isidore parish was formed as part of the Sacramento Diocese. Father McElwee was appointed first pastor. What is now the "Parish Hall" was the first St. Isidore Church blessed by Bishop J. Armstrong.
On March 29,1953, the "Gray" property was purchased for the new parish plant and church building on Cooper Avenue. First fundraising was started for purring up twelve classrooms. Father McElwee chose the name of the parish, the patron of farmers as many Mexican people say "San Isidro de Labrador" or St. Isidore the Laborer.
It is presumed that the Church and the School in place, the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) program was also organized and continued through the years. With Father Manuel Soria as pastor and Milly Reese as Director of Religious Education program for several years, they did much to organize the program and made all information clear to the parents, the nature of the program and their responsibility towards their children and the Church. Corina Mondragon took over when Milly Reese resigned and continued to head the program until November 29, 2005.
To fill in the vacancy, Rev. Loreto "Bong" Rojas, the present pastor invited the Religious Virgin Mary (RVM) Sister to help continue with more dedication to evangelize the young people of the parish. One who was available was brought in by her District Superior, Sr. Mary Olive Kingsbury on November 26, 2005 to observe the possibility of helping Father Rojas. Sr. Maria Auxencia P. Bitangjol who came from their mission in Honolulu, Hawaii ventured to start a new mission in the parish as Director of Religious Education Program (DRE) and started her work on November 30, 2005.
