The Silent Prayer of the Priest (1)

When we come to Church ready to fully participate, we are aware of the little details that take place during the celebration of the Mass. There are certain moments when the priest seems to be whispering, and that is true! Those moments are the following:

The first moment when the priest prays in silence is in preparation before the Mass starts; that is very personal.

Before going to read the Gospel, in front of the Altar or the Cross, he says in secret: “Almighty God, cleanse my heart and my lips that I may worthily proclaim your Gospel.” At the ends of the reading, the priest kisses the book and says: “May the words of the gospel wipe away our sins.”

During the Offertory, while pouring the wine and a little water into the chalice, he says: “By the mystery of this water and wine may we come to share in the divinity of Christ, who humbled himself to share in our humanity.”

Oraciones en Silencio del Sacerdote (1)

Cuando venimos a la Iglesia listos para participar verdaderamente, nos damos cuenta de pequeños detalles que suceden durante la celebración de la Misa. Hay ciertos momentos cuando el padre parece hablar en secreto, y ¡es cierto! Esos momentos son los siguientes:

Andes de la Misa el padre ora en silencio y es una oración personal.

Antes de leer el Evangelio, frente al Altar o la Cruz, dice en secreto: “Purifica mi corazón y mis labios, Dios todopoderoso, para que proclame dignamente tu Evangelio.” Al terminar, el padre besa el libro diciendo: “Que por las palabras del Santo Evangelio, sean perdonados nuestros pecados.”

Durante el ofertorio, mientras mezcla el vino con unas gotas de agua en el cáliz dice: “El agua unida al vino sea signo de nuestra participación en la vida divina de Cristo quien ha querido compartir nuestra condición humana.”

Al final del ofertorio, el sacerdote se inclina sobre las ofrendas y dice: “Acepta, Señor, nuestro corazón contrito y nuestro espíritu humilde; que éste sea hoy nuestro sacrificio y que sea agradable en tu presencia, Señor, Dios nuestro.” Después el monaguillo se acerca con agua y una toalla y el padre dice: “Lava del todo mi delito, Señor, limpia mi pecado.” Y aún hay más para la próxima semana.
