The Readings in Liturgy (2)

Last week we mentioned that the Readings at Mass are taken from the Holy Bible, and that the reality is that God is talking to his people, to each one of us.

Because of that, we have to consider how important is the role of the Lector. First of all, the respect he or she has to pay to the Readings. Secondly, the Lector has to prepare the Readings in advance to get the message, to learn the new and difficult words especially names and places to do it very clearly and properly.

The responsibility of doing the Readings belongs to the community, not just to one or a few people. If you know how to read, you should be part of the Lector’s team to take part in the schedule, and enjoy the privilege of  being the messenger from God to his People on Sunday.

For the rest of the congregation, it is also very important to pay attention to what is being read. There is a personal message from God for you. The homily could help you to get the message, but even the homily can differ from what you understand from the Readings.

Las Lecturas en la Liturgia (2)

La semana pasada mencionamos que las Lecturas en la Misa son tomadas de la Sagrada Biblia y que la realidad es que Dios nos habla a su pueblo, a cada uno de nosotros.

Por esta razón, tenemos que considerar qué importante es el rol del Lector. Primeramente el respeto que se le deben dar a las Lecturas. En segundo lugar, el Lector tiene que preparar las Lecturas a conciencia con tiempo para comprender el mensaje, conocer las palabras nuevas y difíciles, sobre todo los nombres de personas y lugares para poder leer clara y apropiadamente.

La responsabilidad de leer las Lecturas le corresponde a toda la comunidad, no solamente a una o unas pocas personas. Si tú sabes leer, deberías ser parte del equipo de Lectores, participar en el calendario y disfrutar del privilegio de ser el mensajero de Dios para con su pueblo el domingo.

También para el resto de la congregación es muy importante poner toda la atención a las Lecturas. Es un mensaje personal de Dios para ti. La homilía podría ayudarte a captar el mensaje, pero incluso la homilía puede ser diferente del mensaje que tú has captado de las Lecturas.
