Celebrations in the Catholic Church (4)

Most of the celebrations of the life of Jesus are solemnities, and some of them are only a Feast. Many celebrations of Mary and the Saints are Feasts, and a few are solemnities.

The Feast is the second celebration, and it is to be observed in the universal Church; that means, everywhere. During the Feast and Solemnities, the Gloria is sung, and most of the times the Creed recited. In addition to that, these have proper Readings, usually three, as in every Sunday.

The Memorial is ordinarily to celebrate a Saint. These celebrations have only proper prayers, namely, Opening prayer, Prayer over the gifts, and Closing prayer. The Readings are not especial but follow the regular cycle.

The Optional Memorial is for a saint that is known only in a particular region or country. The priest has the option to celebrate that Mass or to choose a different one; remember that we have a big variety of Masses: Votive Masses, Common Masses, and for varied needs and occasions.

Celebraciones en la Iglesia Católica (4)

La mayoría de las celebraciones de la vida de Jesús son solemnidades aunque algunas son solamente Fiestas. Muchas celebraciones de la Virgen María y de los Santos son Fiestas mientras que algunas son solemnidades.

La Fiesta es la segunda categoría de celebraciones, y debe ser observada en la Iglesia universal, o sea, en todas partes. Durante las Fiestas y Solemnidades cantamos el Gloria y la mayoría de las veces se proclama el Credo. Además de esto, tienen Lecturas propias, comúnmente tres al igual que los domingos.

La Memoria es para celebrar comúnmente a un Santo. Estas celebraciones tienen sus oraciones propias, es decir: Oración colecta, Oración sobre las ofrendas y Oración después de la comunión. Las Lecturas no son especiales, sino se siguen las del ciclo regular.

La Memoria Opcional  es para celebrar a un santo conocido solamente en una región particular o un país. El sacerdote tiene la opción de celebrar esa Misa o escoger una diferente; recordemos que hay una gran variedad de Misas: Misas Votivas, Misas Comunes, y Misas por Diversas Necesidades y Ocasiones.
