Catechesis Another great Solemnity is January 1st: Mary, The Mother of God. This should be a holy day of obligation. The Bishops of the United States have asked Rome for permission to make the Solemnities that fall on either Saturday or Monday throughout the year, not an obligation, and this is one of them. Now this is the reason why there is no special Mass Tuesday, January 1st. Our world has changed too much in the last decades, and now it is not possible to attend Mass on weekdays for many people that are at work. Pope Paul VI wanted every Christian to participate in every Solemnity of the Church by attending Mass; that is why some of the Solemnities were transferred to the closest Sunday to the original date. The Epiphany was celebrated on January 6th; now it is on the Sunday that falls between January 2nd and the 8th. The Ascension of the Lord and Corpus Christi were celebrated on Thursday; now, they are on the following Sunday. To be continued... |
Catequesis Una Solemnidad muy grande es el 1º de enero: María, Madre de Dios. Como todas las demás, debería también ser un día de precepto. Los Obispos de los Estados Unidos han pedido a Roma la dispensa para que las solemnidades en el año que caen en sábado o lunes, no sean de precepto, y ésta es una de ellas. Es por eso que no hay Misa especial programada para este primer día del año. Nuestro mundo ha cambiado tanto en la últimas décadas, que ahora no es posible para mucha gente asistir a Misa durante la semana por el trabajo. El Papa Paulo VI quería que todos los cristianos participaran en las solemnidades de la Iglesia asistiendo a Misa; es por eso que algunas solemnidades fueron transferidas al domingo más cercano a la fecha original. La Epifanía o Día de Reyes se celebraba el 6 de enero; ahora se celebra el domingo que cae entre el 2 y el 8 de enero. La Ascensión del Señor y el Corpus Christi se celebraban en jueves; ahora son los domingos siguientes. Continuará... |
