Celebrations in the Catholic Church (2)

Yes, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, the celebration of any saint in the calendar of the Church is the day or close to the day they died. Our faith tells us that the day we die is when we start to live the life that never ends. In fact, the Funeral Mass is now called the Mass of the Resurrection.

Each celebration has a level of importance. The different categories are as follows:
Optional Memorial
Memorial
Feast
Solemnity

Being the Solemnity the most important of them all. Because of their importance, they are celebrated starting the eve of the previous day; for example: the regular Sunday is a solemnity, the Day of the Lord. So, we start to celebrate the Sunday Mass since Saturday after 3:00 PM.

Most of the Solemnities are Holy Days of Obligation. That means we have to attend Mass either the Eve or the Day itself.

Celebraciones en la Iglesia Católica (2)

Sí, mis queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo, la celebración de muchos de los santos del calendario de la Iglesia se lleva a cabo el día o muy cerca del día en que ellos murieron. Nuestra fe nos dice que el día en que morimos es cuando comenzamos a vivir la vida que no se acaba. De hecho, la Misa de Funeral se llama ahora Misa de Resurrección.

Cada celebración tiene un nivel de importancia. Estas son las diferentes categorías:
Memoria Opcional,
Memoria,
Fiesta,
Solemnidad

La Solemnidad es la más importante de todas. Debido a su importancia, se comienza la celebración de una solemnidad la tarde del día anterior; por ejemplo: los domingos regulares son una solemnidad, es el Día del Señor. Por eso comenzamos a celebrar la Misa dominical desde el sábado a partir de las 3 de la tarde.

La mayoría de las solemnidades son Días de Precepto, lo que significa que obliga asistir a Misa ya sea la tarde anterior o el mismo día de la solemnidad.
