Celebrations in the Catholic Church (1)

As in the daily life, and the family life where we categorize our days making some more important that the others, also in the Catholic Church we have different levels of importance in our celebrations.

We celebrate only three birthdays during the whole year, and they are the birthdays of Jesus, Mary, and John the Baptist.

We celebrate many of the Mysteries of Jesus’ life like Presentation in the Temple, being lost and found in the Temple, Baptism,  being tempted by the Satan, Transfiguration, and in a very especial way His Passion, Death, and Resurrection followed by Ascension into heaven.

We celebrate also the Mysteries of the Holy Trinity and Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit.

Along with that, we celebrate the death of many brothers and sisters of us that through history had proven to be faithful to God’s Commandments: Love God above all things, and your brother as you love yourself.

Celebraciones en la Iglesia Católica (1)

En nuestra vida diaria o en la vida familiar, no todos los días son iguales. Algunos son más importantes que otros. En la Iglesia Católica hacemos lo mismo: la mayoría son días ordinarios, pero el resto de los días son especiales o incluso muy especiales para celebrar.

Durante todo el año celebramos solamente tres cumpleaños: de Jesús, de María y de Juan el Bautista. Celebramos además muchos de los misterios de la vida de Jesús como la Presentación al Templo, el Niño perdido y encontrado en el Templo, su Bautismo, las Tentaciones en el desierto, la Transfiguración y de manera muy especial su Pasión, Muerte y Resurrección seguida por su Ascensión a los cielos.

También celebramos los misterios de la Santísima Trinidad y Pentecostés, que es la venida del Espíritu Santo.

Junto con ello, celebramos la muerte de muchos hermanos y hermanas nuestras que a través de la historia fueron capaces de cumplir con los Mandamientos de Dios: Amarás a Dios sobre todas las cosas y a tu próximo como a ti mismo. Ellos son los santos que tenemos en nuestro calendario.
