The Baptism (5)

As every Sacrament, the Baptism is rich in symbols that show us the presence and action of God in our lives. The baby is marked with the Sign of the Cross in the forehead that means from now on this baby belongs to Christ, and the devil has nothing to do with him/her.

The child to be baptized is anointed with the Oil of the Catechumens asking God to strengthen him/her to be able to receive the Holy Spirit. Then the water is blessed and the parents, godparents and all present do the Renunciation of Sin and profess their Faith saying the Creed in their own name and in the name of the child.

Now the baby is ready to be baptized. The parents, godparents and child approach the Baptismal Fount and the minister, priest, bishop or deacon, asks them: “Do you want your child to be baptized in the Faith of the Church that we all have professed with you?” If the answer is “yes”, then the Holy Water is poured on the baby’s head with the words: “I baptize you, (Name), in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”

This is the great moment when the Original Sin is erased, the child receives the Faith, his/her body is transformed into the Temple of the Holy Spirit, he/she becomes now a new child of God!

El Bautismo (5)

Como todos los Sacramentos, el Bautismo es muy rico en símbolos que nos muestran la presencia y acción de Dios en nuestras vidas. El bebé es marcado con la Señal de la Cruz en la frente como señal de que ahora este niño pertenece a Cristo y que el demonio no tiene nada que ver con él.

El niño a ser bautizado es ungido con el Óleo de los Catecúmenos pidiendo a Dios lo fortalezca para poder recibir al Espíritu Santo. Luego se bendice el agua y tanto papás como padrinos junto con los presentes hacen la Renuncia al Pecado y profesan su Fe diciendo el Credo en nombre propio y en nombre del niño.

El niño ya está listo para ser bautizado. Se acercan a la Pila Bautismal y el ministro, sacerdote, obispo y diácono les pregunta: “¿Quieren que su hijo sea bautizado en la Fe de la Iglesia que juntos acabamos de profesar?” Si la respuesta es “sí”, se le echa el Agua Bendita diciendo las palabras: “Yo te bautizo, N, en el nombre del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo.”

Este es el gran momento en el Pecado Original es borrado, el niño recibe la Fe, su cuerpo es transformado en el Templo del Espíritu Santo; ¡ya es un nuevo hijo de Dios!
