The Baptism (3) - El Bautismo (3)
Catechesis Like the other six Sacraments, the Sacrament of Baptism is very rich in symbols –visible signs that represent invisible realities. After the greeting, the first question asked is: Naming a child is identifying him/her as a unique person, different from the rest of humanity. In the Christian tradition, as in many other cultures, the name represents the person, becomes part of the personality, the identity; each name has a definition, represents a value, a quality, a strength, or the beauty of creation. In addition, the Church teaches us that the name is part of the Communion of Saints (we will talk about this in the near future); the name of the child has to be a Christian name, the name of a saint or an angel in order for the child to have an intercessor in heaven and also an example of Christian life to follow. Unfortunately, in the modern times many people pay no attention to meanings and values; therefore, we now see names that are far from being Christian; others are difficult to pronounce and spell. Some people when they grow up are ashamed of their names. I pray for all parents, that you think twice before choosing your child’s name.To be continued... |
Catequesis Así como en los otros seis Sacramentos, el Bautismo es muy rico en simbolismos –signos visibles de realidades invisibles. Después del saludo, la primera pregunta que se hace es: Nombrar a un niño es identificarlo como una persona única, diferente del resto de la humanidad. En la tradición cristiana, como en muchas otras culturas, el nombre representa a la persona, se hace parte de su personalidad, su identidad; cada nombre tiene un significado, representa un valor, una cualidad, la belleza de la creación. La Iglesia nos enseña además que el nombre es parte de la Comunión de los Santos (de ello hablaremos próximamente); el nombre de un niño debe ser cristiano, el nombre de un santo o de un ángel que será un intercesor para el niño y un ejemplo de vida cristiana. Desafortunadamente, en los tiempos modernos a mucha gente no le importan los valores; por lo tanto, vemos ahora nombres que están lejos de ser cristianos y muchos difíciles de pronunciar y de escribir. Algunos niños al crecer se avergüenzan de sus nombres. Pido a Dios por ustedes padres, que lo piensen dos veces antes de decidir el nombre de sus hijos. Continuará... |
