The Annointing of the Sick (2) - La Unción de los Enfermos (2)
Catechesis The Church teaches us that the Sacraments are for the living… once the person has died, we cannot anoint them, just do the prayers of the dead, the commendation of the soul to the Mercy of God, and our prayer for consolation for the mourners. The best way to receive the Sacrament of the Sick is being conscious and with the participation of the family members to pray together for the healing of their beloved one. When is the time to request this Sacrament? Obviously, when we are sick, but not with the sickness that goes away naturally three days later or with one aspirin. When we are suffering with a serious illness, or when we are going to have a surgery, when we are in danger of death, when we are old and weak, these are the times to call or to go to the priest to celebrate the Anointing. Can we receive it several times? Yes, we can; but not every week or month during our same illness. Once is enough when we are sick whether we recover or die. The Church encourages the parishes to celebrate the sacrament with the sick members especially during Lent. We go to the nursing homes, but for those able to go out in the community, we have a Mass where we anoint all of our sick brothers and sisters.To be continued... |
Catequesis La Iglesia nos enseña que los Sacramentos son para los vivos… una vez que la persona ha muerto, ya no podemos ungirla, sólo la oración por los difuntos, la recomendación de su alma a la Misericordia de Dios y la oración por el consuelo para los dolientes. La mejor manera de recibir el Sacramento de los Enfermos es estando aún conciente y con la participación de la familia para orar juntos por la salud de su pariente. ¿Cuándo es el tiempo para pedir este Sacramento? Cuando estamos enfermos, claro está, pero no de una enfermedad que se va sola en tres días o se alivia con una aspirina. Cuando sufrimos una enfermedad seria, cuando vamos a tener una operación, cuando estamos en peligro de muerte, cuando nos hacemos viejitos y débiles es cuando debemos llamar o ir al sacerdote para celebrar la Unción. Podemos recibirla varias veces? Sí podemos; pero no cada semana o cada mes durante la misma enfermedad. Una vez es suficiente hasta que nos sanemos o muramos. La Iglesia nos aconseja celebrar el Sacramento de los Enfermos sobre todo durante la Cuaresma. Nosotros vamos a los asilos, pero para quienes aún pueden salir de casa, tenemos una Misa donde se unge a todos nuestros hermanos y hermanas enfermos.Continuará... |
