Eldon Vignery

Deacon Eldon Vignery was born July 12, 1944 in Los Angeles, Ca. He attended St. Michael's Elementary School and graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in Los Angeles. During his high school years, he worked for Von's Markets in the Los Angeles area. And in his senior year, at his prom, he proposed to his wife Beverly Jean Johnson. In May, 1962 he graduated from Mt. Carmel and in January, 1963 entered the U.S. Army Reserve.
On August 3rd, 1963 he and Beverly were married at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Deacon Eldon started work with Title Insurance and Trust Company in L.A., with transfers to Las Vegas and Fresno. In September, 1974, the family moved to Yuba City. He started work with Ullrey Memorial Chapel, went to Embalming College in Sacramento, and worked at other chapels in the area for the next 7 years. In 1981 he joined the Yuba County Sheriff's Department, retiring in October 2007.
In 1990, Deacon Eldon became involved with Prison Ministry at the Leo Chesney Center for women in Live Oak. During this period of time he became aware of his calling to the Permanent Diaconate. In 1996, he and his wife began the 4 year formation process towards ordination. On June 10, 2000, Deacon Eldon was ordained by Bishop Weigand to the Diocese of Sacramento and assigned to St. Isidore Parish, where is currently on the staff. In November, 2002, Deacon Eldon became the Facility Chaplain at the Leo Chesney Center.
He has two sons, Kenneth and Steven and 5 grandchildren. His main hobbies are working in the yard, and on his train set which he has had since the late 50's. He also enjoys camping and water skiing.
