Rev. Cormac R. Lacre

Fr. Cormac Lacre writes: I was born on September 12, 1973 and raised in the province of Bohol, located in the central islands of the Philippine archipelago. I am the fifth child of Lydia and the late Julio Lacre Sr. There were nine of us siblings altogether, and only eight are still living. I attended high school at Colegio de la Medalla Milagrosa, run by the Augustinian Recollect Sisters. I was ready for the seminary formation as soon as I graduated from high school. I credit my parents and grandparents for cultivating my desire to become a priest. I believe that, more often than not, vocation to the priesthood begins within the family environment. The early years of my life spent regularly attending Mass, my family’s intimate relationships with a number of priests and devout Catholic friends, and the intimate relationships among my family members all contributed to my decision. I spent five years studying at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary, Tagbilaran City, and four years of study in Theology at the Seminario Mayor de San Carlos, Cebu City, Philippines. In January 2001, I transferred to St. Patrick’s Seminary, Menlo Park, California. By December 2002, I was assigned to All Hallows Parish in Sacramento, where I spent six months in the diaconate and the remainder of my time as a transitional deacon. On November 1, 2003, I was ordained to the Priesthood by Most Rev. William Weigand at Our Lady of Assumption Parish, Carmichael. My first assignment as Parochial Vicar was at St. John the Baptist Church in Folsom. There, I spent my first year and ten months in the priesthood. By September 2005, I was transferred to Good Shepherd Parish in Elk Grove as Parochial Vicar. By October 2007, I was transferred to St. Vincent Ferrer Parish, Vallejo as Parochial Vicar. By July 2008, I was assigned as guest priest at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish, Antipolo City, Phillipines. By February 2010, I was transferred to St. Isidore Church, Yuba City, taking the place of Parochial Vicar, Fr. Martin Ramat. In turn, Fr. Martin took my place at St. Vincent Ferrer in Vallejo. On my day off from parish work, I love to play basketball, tennis or table tennis with my fellow Filipino priests in the area. We even play basketball sometimes even with various youth groups and eight graders in different parishes in our Diocese of Sacramento. I greatly enjoy the camaraderie of my fellow Filipino priests. With them, I experience the brotherly love that was taught to us by our Lord Jesus Christ.
Note: On April 25, 2011 Fr. Cormac was transferred to the position of Parochial Administrator at Immaculate Conception Parish in Corning, CA - (Webservant) |
