Sister Maria Auxencia P. Bitangjol, RVM

Sister Maria Auxencia P. Bitangjol, RVM
Director of Religious Education
Originally from the Philippines, Sister Auxie has taught there as well as in Woodland (1981-82) and most recently in Honolulu for 19 years.
She has celebrated 50 years as an RVM. After her sabbatical and taking a vacation with her retired (but still active) brother, Fr. Albert, in San Francisco, her District Superior asked if she would like to come to Yuba City. She did arrive to visit Fr. Bong and found him very persuasive. She views this as venturing on another mission. Her order has a home in Elverta (Sacramento County, California). Sister is also a published poet. She had another brother, who is deceased, and has 10 nephews and nieces, including a nephew priest in the Augustinian Recollect Order.
The history of her order, commonly known as the Congregation of the Religious of the Virgin Mary, or the R.V.M. Sisters, was founded in 1684, when the silent yet courageous Mother Ignacia del Espiritu Santo and two others formed the nucleus of the first all-Filipino religious congregation for women organized in the Philippines. Since the order's foundation, one can say that the Congregation has matured slowly but surely, in its service to God and to the members of Christ's Mystical Body. The Congregation of the Religious of the Virgin Mary is the oldest and largest Filipino congregation.
Today, the R.V.M. Sisters work throughout the Philippine archipelago. The work has grown enormously over the years. Fifty-seven schools and sixteen other houses dot 1,500 miles from northern Luzon to southern Mindanao. For the most part, education work and the retreat movement are a common endeavor of the Congregation, but the apostolate also includes conducting seven dormitories, one hospital, special ministries, a house in Sacramento County, California, and several other foreign missions around the world. (Visit RVM Sisters Overseas Missions.)
The Congregation of the Religious of the Virgin Mary stands for the tradition of Catholic culture, intent on forming true Christians, preparing them for a life of happiness here and in eternity. (Note: Sr. Auxencia arrived at St. Isidore Parish in 2006. She remained as our Religious Education Director until her move to the Bay Area on July 1, 2008.)
