Saint Vincent de Paul Society- Yuba City
St. Vincent de Paul assists those in need with food, clothing, rent and utility bills, furniture, household goods, etc. Each request for assistance is followed up with a home visit by a team of volunteers. The volunteers are the eyes, ears and hands of Jesus and are an example of his love and concern for all of our brothers and sisters. On the home visit, they gather information on the needs of the family, assess the situation, and offer assistance when appropriate. These home visits close with an invitation to prayer if the persons are open to that offer.
The society has monthly meetings on the 1st Monday of each month. The meetings are designed to increase the spirituality of our members with a time of reflection and meditation. Members also share their experiences in helping others and there are some business items to attend to.
St. Isidore Conference of St. Vincent de Paul is sponsoring three holiday events for those in need in our community:
Holiday Dinner for the Homeless Sunday, December 4th @ 1:30 in the Parish Hall.
Please join us as we serve a holiday meal to the homeless in our community. We need greeters, servers, set-up, clean-up and table hosts at the dinner. We also need pies for dessert. We are planning on serving 200+ meals.
In addition, we will be collecting donations of gifts to give our guests. The most critical needs are tarps to keep their belongings dry, socks, coats (new or gently used), gloves, and warm sleeping bags and tents. Please drop your donations at the office, or small items may be placed in the Food Locker box in the church vestibule. We will also be collecting personal care items (travel size shampoo, hand sanitizer/soap, toothpaste, deodorant etc.) to distribute at the dinner.
Anyone wishing to volunteer in any capacity, please contact the church office or send us an e-mail.
Holiday Meals for Families
We are putting together a traditional turkey dinner with all of the trimmings for several families in our community. We have received a donation of 30 turkeys at this time and will be distributing 30 dinners. We are accepting donations of food items, gift cards, and cash to help offset the costs of these baskets.
Items we need include, stuffing mix, mashed potatoes, chicken broth, canned sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, green beans, canned pumpkin, and gift boxes of candy. Items may be brought to the Food Locker weekday mornings or left in the Food Locker box in the church vestibule. Please do not donate any perishable items.
SVdP Nativity Program
SVdP is collecting donations for our Nativity Program – put Christ in Christmas campaign. Every $5 donation will purchase a nativity set and bi-lingual book explaining the true meaning of Christmas. These gift sets will be distributed to the needy in our community through our home visits and the Food Lockers bags in the month of December. Please support this campaign to remind everyone of the true meaning of Christmas. We currently give approximately 80-100 bags of food to families each month. We would like to be able to include a nativity set in every bag distributed during Advent, so please be generous in your support of this campaign.
